AS biology revision: Morgan’s mindmap
Posted on May 19th, 2010 No commentsWelcome back to ClickBiologyOne of my AS students, Morgan, used a free lesson to revise his Biology AS work and wrote this mindmap. I left it on the board for a while and it made quite an impact on my Year 7 and 10 classes. It certainly highlighted to the younger students the intricacies of the subject and sparked quite a few discussions on what cells are really like (and not the fried egg image we teach at KS3 and 4!) Click on the image to take a closer look. We argued over whether there should be a linking arrow from the fluid mosaic section to globular proteins. We actually spent the day with me secretely adding the arrow and Morgan secretely rubbing it off again. Yes I know…we both need to get a life!

A Level Powerpoint presentation: Membrane structure and function
Posted on May 8th, 2010 2 comments
This is a teaching Powerpoint presentation for AS level Biology (see link to file at bottom of post or click on image). The presentation contains animations and questions. I have been playing around with trigger animations at the moment so the questions have the answers hidden behind clickable boxes and can then be covered up again. To move to the next slide you click on the main background or the forward arrows bottom left hand of corner. If the reveal boxes annoy you then you can simply add an extra slide and put the answers on these.Other animations occur when you click on background.
There are a couple of prompt/instruction slides to book or practical activities and of course you can add more. I will do a video version of this soon.

A Level video: Nephron structure and function
Posted on May 8th, 2010 No commentsThis is an excellent video for A level revising the nephron. Recommend that students review structure of the kidney first so they understand how the nephron is situated in the cortex and medulla of the kidney:

A Level worksheets: Section 8.5
Posted on May 8th, 2010 No comments
These worksheets covers section 8.5 Making sense of what we see fromt he A2 SNAB textbook. I developed these as I had a A2 class of lads who did not like making their own notes. These worksheets focused them and ensured they worked through the section methodically. All the answers come in order so as they read through the section they can fill the sheets in as they go. Very useful for cover lessons and homework also (plus, if I am honest, to set the students to work on in class when you are overloaded with admin and need them to just work on their own but also be productive).
